IRTG-BrainVasc Lectures

Grand Rounds | A cellular-resolution brain-computer interface for stroke-induced disorders of language

Simon Jacob

This interdisciplinary Grand Rounds lecture will explore how cutting-edge neurotechnologies, particularly brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), are beginning to open new therapeutic avenues for neurological dysfunction. With a focus on restoring mobility and communication, especially after stroke, Simon Jacob will illustrate how implantable BCIs are moving from fundamental neuroscience toward clinical application and discuss their potential to address major unmet needs in neurorehabilitation.

As a special highlight, the lecture will be joined by Marija B., the first person in the world to receive an intracortical microelectrode BCI to investigate and treat language disorders. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet and interact with Marija and hear her perspective firsthand. Her participation will provide a powerful illustration of the challenges faced by people living with cognitive and language impairments after stroke and of the potential for emerging neurotechnologies to create entirely new therapeutic possibilities.

IRTG students and all interested SFB 1744 members are warmly invited to attend.
